In this project, we were challenged to create a sculpture out of an every day object, but keep its original purpose. This was a very interesting project in the aspect that we couldn't just decorate it, we had to turn in into a sculpture. I had a lot of trouble coming up with an idea for this project. There was a lot of trial and error. I started out with clay, which didn't work out in the slightest. Then I decided to try quilling and see where it took me. I didn't have an exact idea in mind, since I prefer to work as a go and see how it turns out. Overall, I think it turned out really well. I did burn myself a few times with the hot glue gun, but in the end I think it was worth it. It took a long time to make all the quills. What inspired me to make this piece was the due date. If I had to pick a project, this wouldn't be it. But I do think I've grown a lot throughout the project and I've learned how to be more flexible in the way I think about things. I really did enjoy this project, but I'm also glad it's over.
This is my scratch board piece. My intent was to draw a cougar with vines in the background. I think the textures of my piece enhance it because of how you can see the direction of the hair growth and that makes it more realistic. I also really like the texture of the vines, I just wish i had made them thicker. I implied movement in my piece because of how I attempted to draw the texture on my cougar. Unfortunately I don't think this is my best artwork. I don't think it turned out as well as it could have. I could have used some more practice. This was my first time using this medium. I had a really fun time making this project, next time I'll make sure to practice more.
For the first part of the final exam, I had to pick the project that was challenging, yet successful. I think my opacity project definitely fits the description. In this project, I had a lot of trouble coming up with the right idea. In frustration, I just threw a bunch of objects in a plastic bag, not thinking it would turn out too well. As it turns out, this was one of my best projects I think I've ever done- the most realistic one at least. It came together so well in the end and when I added the texture of the wood and the crinkles of the plastic bag, it all came together. Working with the prisma colors is really nice because they blend so evenly and you can get the right shade or highlight without too much effort. The hardest part of this project for me was getting the perspective right. I had taken the photo at a weird angle and I just couldn't get it right. Thankfully I learned an new technique to get the perspective right. Overall I'm really proud of this piece and I think it is one of my best works! Over the course of this class, I feel that I have grown immensely. In the beginning, I felt like I did not fit in with the rest of the class because I thought I was a bad artist. Through this class, I did not only learn how to become a better artist, I also learned not to compare myself to others. Everyone has their own style and ideas. Similarly, I think the reason i've grown as an artist because I allowed myself to follow my own ideas and not try to become stuck on if mine looks the same as someone else's. At the beginning of the year I did a still life piece that I was not that proud of. The proportions were off and the shading was too light. I also feel like I rushed a lot on it was well. It was not one of my best works. What I did later in the year was a lot better. An example of this was of a candy I did, wrapped in a clear plastic. It was very tedious at first, but as I worked on it, it got better and better. I really love how vibrant the colors are and how realistic it looks. Overall I really really enjoyed this class and I might take it again my senior year to try and improve even more! This is my self portrait project. Since this is first time drawing people, I expected it to turn out extremely badly. Luckily I was wrong. Although it doesn't look like me that much, I am proud of my proportions of the face and the shading. If I could do anything different I would push the darks more and add more contrast to the artwork. I think that hardest part is laying the basis of the artwork and planning it out. I had a lot of trouble deciding what to draw and then actually executing out. Overall, I'm proud of this project and I had fun working on it!

I feel like this piece is one of my best works. I'm really proud of how it turned out. I really like the shading of it and the shadow turned out really well.
